International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
In honour of International Women’s Day, the Kiwanis Club of Chatham Kent is celebrating Jean Coulson, the first female member in this local club, who joined in 1989. Formerly a men’s only Club, Kiwanis International passed a bylaw in 1987 that supported women joining Kiwanis Clubs and Coulson joined two years later.
Today, the 52 member Chatham Kent Kiwanis Club has a large number of female members, with some of those member’s families stretching across three generations.
